Pain is often the first symptom of dysfunction.

When it strikes, it is already late.

Pain is managed by drugs, either over-the-counter ones or the more powerful ones prescribed by physicians.

The most prescribed painkillers are the opioids because not only are they the best at managing pain, but patients want them.

Want them.

Patients provide symptoms to doctors and doctors prescribe drugs.

The Ancient healers treated pain the same way they prevented disease. 

They kept themselves in balance or had it restored. Balance was achieved via plants. Teas, incense, and other forms helped the healer achieve balance.   

Today’s physicians balance lawsuits with defensive medicine.

Physicians practice medicine in a manner to best prevent and win lawsuits.

I recommend a return to the Traditional philosophy of health.

This proactive approach is based on the original intent and meaning of the term 'diet', one in which activity is considered essential.  

I call it an Athlete's Diet.

Many are rock solid in science, other not so, but the one undeniably true fact about them, is that they worked.

This methodology is intended to help people live a healthy life.

It is based in the equation 'amount of activity or exercise in the day' minus the stress of living equals the quality of health.The higher the number the healthier the person.

The converse is also true. High stress and low exercise equals ill health.

Once exercise is accepted as a priority in life, then it becomes a matter of knowing what is needed to keep it going. 

The ingredients above everything else must meet the molecular needs of exercise.

One of the unfortunate consequences of exercise is the pain and inflammation that follows. Unresolved inflammation in joints is the cause of arthritis.

Many athletes depend on drugs to exercise; especially those that do so infrequently or improperly.

Most of the detrimental effects of exercise are the result of chronic inflammation. It is usually not due to a severe injury but instead is the result of repetitive stress.

Pharmaceutical drugs and surgeries best treat severe injuries and acute inflammation.

Chronic inflammation can be minimized or prevented with botanicals.

A botanical approach to healing is better suited to chronic diseases and in particular, it is the preferred method to manage chronic arthritis. 

Drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), indomethacin (Indocin), and naproxen (Aleve) represent a group of drugs knows as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). There are more than 50 different NSAIDs on the market, none of which are ideal in the management of inflammatory joint disease (arthritis).

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are agents that combat the aches, pains, and inflammation that follows exercise.

Acetaminophen (Tylenol) does not repress inflammation and is therefore not classified as a NSAID. Although acetaminophen dulls pain equally with NSAIDS and is usually grouped with them, it does not reduce swelling and is therefore not recommended to manage exercise pain.

NASAIDs offer adequate pain relief or analgesia without causing addiction. Instead of addiction, NSAIDs cause liver, kidney and gastrointestinal complications.

The drugs that best dull pain are the addictive opium narcotics or their derivatives (codeine, oxycodone and meperidine). Their potential for abuse discourages doctors from prescribing them but the euphoria it produces guarantees return visits. The ease of acquiring these drugs makes them a real threat.

Analgesics encompass all pharmaceutical drugs that dull pain. They collectively earn over fifteen billion dollars annually for their makers and projected to earn over twenty-five billion within a few years. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) represent a significant portion of those sales.

 NSAIDs may have other beneficial effects since they are also potent antioxidants with strong free radical scavenging ability.
