Anti-aging medicine is based on reversing the body’s decline before it develops visible decay.

Women have long been the beneficiaries of treatments to counter the body's molecular decline. For example, the decline that begins in menopause can be delayed with hormone replacement therapy to counter the loss of estrogen.

There are also hormone replacement treatments available for men. These drugs delay the onset of andropause. While this use of drugs is beneficial to health, there are also toxic injections, invasive surgeries and fat sucking procedures that are not. Baby-boomers are now undergoing these 'procedures' in record numbers. This is the kind of behavior that not only threatens their health but will undoubtedly harm the country's fiscal future.

There are also natural methods to counter the loss of estrogen and testosterone that are discussed elsewhere. Collagen, a major component of skin, can also be strengthened and hydrated to improve function. This is accomplished with natural products like glucosamine and alpha-lipoic acid.

Wrinkles are managed by combining alpha-lipoic acid, dimethylethanolamine (DMAE), CoQ10, and green tea polyphenols to remove fine wrinkles.
These powerful antioxidants are combined with moisturizers, soy isoflavones and kinetin, (a plant growth factor) to retain water
in the skin and stimulate the production of collagen.
Topical application of grapeseed oil is also used to prevent wrinkles and reduce the development of crow’s feet around the eye.

Silver Ear (Tremela Fuciformis) mushrooms have been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat asthma, bronchitis and dry coughs.
T.Fuciformis contains a unique beta-glucan that is believed to have great water-retention property making it a valuable ally in preventing and erasing wrinkles.
T.Fuciformis is therefore often combined with vitamin E, alpha- lipoic acid and Coenzyme Q10 in the production of cosmetics and facial creams as a natural method to rejuvenate skin.

Alpha Lipoic Acid has been used in an interesting combination of natural products to prevent prostate cancer, This combination uses alpha lipoic acid together with resveratrol, N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC) and melatonin.

Alpha lipoic acid is both a water-soluble and lipid soluble antioxidant.
Resveratrol (resorcinol) is the polyphenol found in wine. It is a powerful antioxidant synthesized and stored in the skin of the red grape.
Melatonin is naturally produced in the brain by the pineal gland. The dark hormone helps regulate circadian rhythms and is a powerful antioxidant that preferentially protects mitochondrial and nuclear DNA.
N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC) metabolizes to a precursor in the formation of the antioxidant glutathione. The thiol (sulfhydryl) group has a strong antioxidant effect on free radicals being a part of glutathione peroxidase, the strong antioxidant enzyme system.

Combining these four natural compounds is claimed to help the body block specific estrogen metabolites from binding with DNA. This in effect prevents the formation of adducts and mutations, two early events in the progression of cancer. This combination of four natural compounds is claimed to prevent breast and prostate cancers. if nothing else, this once again demonstrates the importance of antioxidant activity and the value of a diverse spectrum of activity.
